I started at the Y in 2015 about a month after my long-term partner passed away. I had been taking a senior exercise class run by the Y at the Westfield Senior Center, and the instructor suggested I come here to do more.
I was hesitant since I live on a fixed income, but she encouraged me to apply for financial assistance, which was granted. I started with one fitness class. By the end of the summer, I was taking 10 classes a week. I also became a volunteer and now spend about 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, at the Y.
Being such an active part of the Y is helping me through my grieving process. I have also lost 50 pounds, and I have gone from four diabetes and blood pressure medications to one.
The Y has changed my life in more ways than I could have imagined. I have somewhere to go and something meaningful to do.
I love being a part of the Y.
