Aquatics at the Westfield Area Y
Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. We offer aquatics programs for every age and every skill level including group and individual instructional swim, water safety, lifeguard training, water fitness and the Devilfish competitive swim team.
We also have open and lap swim and even have swimming parties/special events!
We take great pride in our staff training and certification levels. Swim instructors are trained under the Y of the USA guidelines. Our Water Fitness instructors all hold national certifications. Every one of our staff members is trained in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer as well as First Aid. This level of training helps to ensure a safe, quality program.
Youth Swimming Lessons
All Ages and Abilities
The Y made its initial impact on aquatics with the first reported YMCA “swimming bath” built at the Brooklyn Central YMCA in 1885 and has served tens of millions of children and adults since. Today, the Y is often referred to as the nation’s swim instructor. This tradition of excellence continues at the Westfield Area Y. Not only are participants taught in a caring way how to swim, but also learn water safety skills with the goal of developing a love for the water that lasts a lifetime.
Group and individual instruction are available various times, weekdays and weekends for participants ages 6 months-adult. Class size is determined by participant’s age and instructor/participant ratios to maximize learning and safety. Classes typically run in 8-week program sessions.
Individuals with Disabilities
Rainbow Fish 30-minute group lessons are designed for children of any age with non-physical disabilities ages 3-12. Learn to swim in a group setting with smaller ratios. Swimmers work on skills that are appropriate for their ability level. New participants receive a free skill assessment prior to registration. Individual lessons are also available for every age and ability.
