Lisa Shannon
I have always loved fitness and continue with my own fitness gains. Growing up at the Y in competitive swimming, I ended up in the aquatics field for over twenty years. During this time, I was also introduced to beneficial land exercise and have been certified as a personal trainer since 2004. In 2005 I was certified in group exercise. I fell in love teaching Spin classes in 2010 and helping with staff fitness challenges. Every two years as a trainer, I am required to take continuing education courses. I have taken many workshops and went to many fitness conferences and greatly enjoy learning about current trends and how to help people with their health and wellness goals. I recently joined the Westfield Y after a 20 plus year career at the Madison Y. Following the pandemic, working part time worked best for my family and being around more for my two kiddos. I have been able to embark on this journey due to the wonderful support of this community YMCA. The facility and staff speak for themselves, as this is truly a one of a kind place. I hope to have an opportunity to help you with your health and wellness goals!

Walt Foster
I got the fitness bug early in life. Playing baseball, basketball, PAL boxing and karate set the table for a lifetime of fitness. While coaching a middle school basketball team, I took education courses in strength and conditioning for athletes which helped our players quite a bit. Through the Y, I train a fitness class at Down Town Overlook Hospital in Summit twice a week. Over the past few years I have trained many people in a variety of situations. Some of the classes were senior fitness, women’s strength, strength training for sports, special population, pre- and post- bariatric patients and anyone who is serious about getting fit for life.

I work as a strength trainer and a personal trainer. I greatly enjoy working out and started to train here at the Y myself. This gave me the interest in studying to be a personal trainer. We are very lucky to have a great facility with the finest equipment. I am certified through ISSA and enjoy helping people get in shape and figure out an exercise program that works for them.

Humberto Dumani
Since I was 5 years old I started to do martial arts and traditional sports like soccer, basketball, baseball and volleyball. During my childhood I practiced taekwondo a lot. Years later, I got my 3rd degree kukkiwon certification in taekwondo. I competed in national events, and I pursued competing at an international level as well, since I was a high performance athlete. Besides Taekwondo, I also did Kickboxing, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. I focused more on martial arts sports because martial arts is in my blood as my whole father’s family did decades ago. When I came to the United States in 2015, I wanted to go to college and get a bachelor’s degree in physical education. So, I went to Union County College to study English. After that, in 2017 I went to Kean University to make my dream come true. In 2021, I graduated from Kean University, and I got a bachelor’s degree in Community Recreation and Administration . My whole life has been dedicated to fitness, wellness, sports and technology. I became a personal trainer because I wanted to help others make their own goals come true. I have a personal certification through International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) which helped me to reinforce my knowledge about how to fulfill my clients goals. |
